Tonight we celebrated Matthew's birthday with some friends from his class. He wanted a camping party like his sister, but I strongly feel second graders are not ready for sleepovers, especially those that take place in a tent in the backyard. So he accepted the compromise to do everything but the sleeping-over part. They made their own trail mix, ate hot dogs, and ran around like crazy. There was also a campfire, marshmallows, and s'mores of course. Post-party Matthew had a hoarse voice (from so much excited screaming and yelling), and he's so exhausted we just caught him sleepwalking. And right after the party he said, "We forgot to have cake!" I reminded him there was no cake, only s'mores. "I didn't get one!" So yeah, he had such a good time running around with his friends he completely missed the campfire in the middle of the patio. Such an 8 year old boy! Ha!
The big hit of the party was when Brian helped them put together their own marshmallow shooters out of PVC. They had a blast with those, and tomorrow we're going to pick up the hundreds of marshmallows around the yard that the ants haven't gotten to yet.
I'm glad he had a good party with his buddies. We don't have many photos because it's difficult to capture good shots of 7 and 8 year old boys and they require far more supervision, especially around fires, than Elizabeth and her friends. We did our best.
